They look similar and we know the Prime 2 only has 2 channels – besides that and the $500 difference, what’s the deal? Prime 4 Vs. Prime 2!

Some background first

In the late 2010s, Denon DJ began its mission to innovate and #Changetherider of the DJ industry. They started off by introducing their first-ever PRIME SERIES product with the SC5000 & X1800 Prime setup.  Since then, they have been innovating and raising the bar on all their equipment, especially their DJ Controllers.  The Prime 4 was introduced to rave reviews and has built a large and loyal following.  That said, the Prime 4 is so awesome and has so many features that you simply may not need all of them.  In that spirit, the Prime 2 was born!  So let’s dive in and get educated. Besides the $500 price difference, what else are you giving up by going with the lighter weight and less expensive little brother, the Prime 2?denon-dj-prime2

The differences between the Denon DJ Prime 2 and Prime 4

  • The first major difference is the size. The Prime 2 comes in at 25.39″ x 16.15″ x 4.73″ and only 15 lbs. The Prime 4 is 28.68″ x 19.56″ x 4.08″ and 21.5 lbs.
  • The second major difference is that the Prime 2 has 2 channels instead of 4. However, you can still control 4 decks!
  • The third major difference is that the screen is a bit smaller, 10.1″ vs 7″. Additionally, the screen is set in one position only.
  • The fourth major difference is the zone output which most people won’t need unless you need to run sound in another room etc.
  • The last major difference is inputs, the Prime2 has 3 fewer inputs comparatively than the Prime 4 and no phono line ins.

Conclusion:

So with all that said, which one is right for you? The Prime 2 or the Prime 4?

Here’s our take; If you are looking to spend a little less and the above differences are not deal breakers for you, go with the 2. Also, if you’re looking for a “Home studio” controller this is a perfect choice as it still has all the same features as the Prime 4 (Wi-fi enabled, tidal streaming, USB inputs, or the ability to use the software) and the smaller size and lower cost make it a PERFECT home studio or backup controller.

There you have it, those are the differences so now the choice is up to you.   Either way, you’re getting a KILLER CONTROLLER!  Make sure you comment below with any questions or something we may have missed.  Please make sure you leave any questions or comments below, we love feedback!
